Removals & Remediation

Why are my vulnerabilities taking longer than expected to be removed?

We understand how frustrating it can be to see vulnerabilities remain visible after a removal request has been submitted. Protecting your digital presence is our top priority, and we want to be transparent about what influences removal timelines, and what Hush is actively doing on your behalf.

Removal Timelines Vary by Website

Removing personal information from third-party websites, including data brokers, people search sites, public record aggregators, and other online sources, is rarely instantaneous.

In our experience, removals can happen as quickly as 7 days, may take up to 180 days in more complex cases, and on average, member data is successfully removed within approximately 90 days.

These timelines vary because there is no universal legal or operational standard requiring third parties to process removal requests within a fixed timeframe. Every organization maintains its own privacy policy, identity verification requirements, legal review process, and internal workflows, and Hush must work within those requirements.

Some Providers Are Significantly Slower Than Others

Not every website processes privacy requests at the same pace. Some data brokers and public-facing websites require multiple rounds of identity verification, manual review, or extended waiting periods before honoring valid removal requests. Others intentionally make the opt-out process more difficult by limiting communication channels or requesting additional documentation.

Providers such as RocketReach, Radaris, Intelius, and websites like Zillow are known for extended delays, repeated verification steps, or limited responsiveness. Even after a request has been approved, some organizations only update their public databases periodically, meaning your information may remain visible until their next scheduled update.

A Visible Vulnerability Does Not Mean Nothing is Happening

Once a removal request has been initiated, Hush actively tracks its progress and follows up whenever additional action is required. Many providers do not offer real-time status updates, so a vulnerability remaining visible does not indicate inaction. It typically reflects the counterparty's processing timeline.

Our dashboard reflects the current public availability of your information, not simply whether a removal request has been submitted.

Some Information May Reappear Over Time

The online data ecosystem is constantly changing. Data brokers regularly acquire fresh information from public records, commercial data providers, marketing databases, and other third-party sources. As these databases are updated, information that was previously removed can occasionally reappear.

This does not necessarily mean a previous removal failed. In many cases, it simply means the website obtained a new copy of your information after the original removal was completed. When Hush detects these newly discovered exposures through ongoing monitoring, we initiate additional removal requests as needed.

Digital Privacy Requires Ongoing Maintenance

Removing personal information from the internet is not a one-time event. Websites change ownership, publish new records, create duplicate profiles, and continually refresh their databases. New vulnerabilities can emerge over time even after earlier removals have been completed.

Hush continuously monitors your digital footprint, identifies new exposures, and works to remove them as they are discovered. This ongoing process helps maintain your privacy over time and provides more comprehensive protection than one-time removals alone.
